FALSE DAWN Jake Lassiter Legal Thrillers Book 3 edition by Paul Levine Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Now don't get me wrong. This is not the first Lassiter book I've read and I've already bought another. He is both interesting and amusing. But, for some reaon or other, in tis one he just plain "talks" too much and distracts from the story. Somehere are 80% I actuzlly found myself bored even while the hero's life was hanging by a thread.

Now, I don't know how possible the story line can be since I kow for a fact that some of the items used in the story are absolutelyno possible. And, I do get a little bored with his prior injuries hurting his performance.

But, and a big but, I still like Levie's writing.

FALSE DAWN Jake Lassiter Legal Thrillers Book 3 edition by Paul Levine Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I thought Lassiter was suppose to be a lawyer. No court room drama in this one. Also the main character, Jake, gets beat up etc etc at every turn. Not good. I stopped reading another series for the same reason. The protagonist should not be taking a beating all the time. Steve Martinni made the same error with his main character.
I'm a big fan of Jake Lassiter. This book was an earlier one in that series by Paul Levine, and it was a bit more serious than the later ones, but the author did a great job of integrating his considerable research into the story line. I love to learn as I read, and I did. Add that to the formidably funny and quite likable Jake Lassiter character, and you've got a winning formula.
The author dives into so much detail from the get go that it becomes a laborious read. Suggest a massive edit and get to the action rather than describe the setting and incidental information. Didn't get past the first few pages and abandoned it.
If you like to read mysteries please read the works of Paul Levine. I just finished "False Dawn," the third installment in the Lassiter series. I read the book in two nights and if I did not have to go to work, I would have read it one. In this novel Mr. Levine creates an aura of the most improbably crazy outcomes being completely accepted as naturally occurring. The sheer craziness kept me reading to see what could possibly happen next. But it is only the appearance of being out of control. The book is tightly written and completely under Mr. Levine's thumbs. You will know that when you get to the ending, which closes every plot line and satisfies all questions.
One of the longest book ever! The dullest thriller EVER. Poorly edited. So many wordy descriptions of every last thing. If I could give this a zero I would. So silly with a plot so confusing you still won't understand it when you're done. Skip this book, please.
Well --- the author can spin a yarn but this epistle is bogged down in WAY too much irrelevant detail.
Then there's references by comparing characters' traits with names I've never heard of (presumably real people?).
Plus there seems to be an unnecessary detailed description of every building and street in Florida !!??!!
So - apart from being drawn out way too much - plus convoluted details of different nation's politics - there's a reasonable story buried in there - somewhere.
I really enjoy the development of the characters in Paul Levine's books. Jake is real and believable, smart and funny. The other familiar characters of Dr. Charlie Riggs, Cindy and Abe Socolow, anchor the story and brings it back to a sense of reality. I feel like I know all of these characters and can picture them in action.
This book was very long and some of the description did not seem to help the advancement of the story that much, almost like filler. The story however was very involved with the international crime players from Russia and Cuba, and although Jake is savvy, they end up fooling him with their duplicity. The sense of acceptance of destiny, as shown through the characters of Crespo and Soto, contrasted with the ego and narcissism of Yagamata and Foley. Just when you think it is all spinning out of control, the forces behind the scenes work it all out and gives the reader a sense of good over evil, right versus wrong and the comfort of someone knowing what is going on and preserving that faith.
